Home extensions come in a variety of forms, and selecting the right one for your property requires carefully considering your home's layout, available space, the purpose of the extension, and your budget.
Whether you aim to add more living space, create a brighter and more open environment, or increase your home's value, understanding the different extension options can help you determine the best choice for your specific goals.
Generally, the main home extension types include:
Rear Extension: Expanding the rear of your property, in single or double-story designs, often used to enlarge the kitchen, dining, and living areas.
Side Extension: Adding space to the side of your home, available in single or double-story configurations, and one of the more straightforward extension projects to undertake.
Wraparound Extension: Combining side and rear extensions, typically constructed as a single-story addition, to maximize ground-floor space.
Dormer Loft Extension: Adding an extension to the rear roof slope to create more usable loft space.
Hip-to-Gable Loft Extension: Transforming the roof from a sloped hip style to a straight gable, providing a larger interior loft area for conversion.
Mansard Extension: Altering the rear roof slope into a steeper angle, known as a mansard, to gain additional habitable space, often used in loft conversions.
Basement Extension: Creating an extra level beneath your home, often used for entertainment or living spaces, effectively adding another story.
Additional Floor Extension: Raising the roof to accommodate a completely new upper story, adding an extra floor to your property.
